Frank D. Yelian, M.D., Ph.D., Founder and Medical Director of Life IVF Center, is a board certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist who received special fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Yelian has over 30 years experience in the field of reproductive medicine and women’s Health.
Dr. Yelian graduated from Zhejiang University School of Medicine (a prestigious University in China) in 1983. He then received Obstetrics and Gynecology training and earned a Master Degree at the same institution in 1986. He then came to the United States in 1987 and worked with Dr. W. Richard Dukelow at the Endocrine Research Center at Michigan State University. He earned a Ph.D. in Reproductive Endocrinology and embryology in 1991. Subsequently, he joined the IVF program as a post-doctoral fellow and working as an embryologist at Wayne State University. In 1993, Dr. Yelian performed the first intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) case in the state of Michigan. During this period, Dr. Yelian studied embryo implantation for many years working with Dr. Randy Armant, and he has published many papers in the field of embryo implantation and human reproduction. He was promoted as Assistant Professor in 1993 in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Wayne State University.
To practice clinical medicine, Dr. Yelian received his additional residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Michigan State University. After completing his residency, he joined the Reproductive Medicine and Infertility (REI) fellowship program at Wayne State University.
During his fellowship from 2002-2004, he had opportunity to work with several world renowned obstetricians, gynecologists, and reproductive endocrinologists such as Dr. Roberto Romero, Dr. Kamran Moghissi, and Dr. Michael Diamond. Upon completion of his fellowship, Dr. Yelian joined the faculty at Wayne State University as Associate Professor. As a faculty member, in addition to research and teaching medical students, residents and fellows, he has focused on assisted reproductive technologies and minimal invasive gynecological surgery. Dr. Yelian has gained extensive experience treating patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, recurrent pregnancy loss, and premature ovarian failure. He has over 100 publications, and he has received numerous national and international awards. Most recently, he was elected as the Chairman for the Chinese Special Interest Group at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
In 2009, Dr. Yelian took sabbatical leave to work at Kato Ladies Clinic in Japan where he mastered the new techniques and skills of Natural Cycle IVF and Minimal Stimulation IVF. In 2010, Dr. Yelian founded the Life IVF Center in Irvine, California, and now it has become a premier fertility center in Southern California specializing in Natural Cycle IVF and Minimal Stimulation IVF. Dr. Yelian is a highly recognized as world expert in the field of infertility, especially in treating patients with endometriosis and diminished ovarian reserve. Many patients come from outside of California to Irvine for fertility treatment. He also has many patients come from all over the world, so far we have patients come from China, Taiwan, Japan, Philippine, Malaysia, Russia, France, England, Germany, Italy, Holland, Mexico, Canada, Argentina, and South Africa.
Dr. Lee C. Kao joins us from Lane Fertility Institute in San Francisco with over 20 years experience in infertility and is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Originally from Taipei, Taiwan, he obtained his MD from Taipei Medical University and his PhD from University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League University, in molecular biology with a focus on human placental development. He is also a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese.
Dr. Kao then completed his residency at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC in Obstetrics and Gynecology and then furthered his training at the University Of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI). He has also served on the faculty of Stanford University Medical Center and UCLA and served as the co-director for the center for Fertility and Reproductive Medicine. He has been in private practice since 2007 after years of award winning teaching and writing over 70 publications on human reproduction and infertility. He is also a member of numerous prestigious organizations such as the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI), the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART), the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA), and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologist (ACOG).
Dr. Kao is an expert in treating PCOS and endometriosis-related infertility and also believes in Life IVF Center's philosophy in providing individualized care and treatment for all patients. He is a strong supporter of reproductive rights for all, regardless of marital status, sexuality, or nontraditional family structure. He has spearheaded a unique fertility program in the Bay Area dedicated for HIV positive individuals.We are very excited to add Dr. Lee C. Kao, MD, PhD to our team here at Life IVF Center so we can continue providing the best care for our patients. He will be assisting Dr. Frank Yelian, Medical Director, in procedures such as Egg Retrievals and helping patients with their treatment plans and questions as they go on through their journey here at Life IVF Center. Dr. Dourron specializes in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Robotic Surgery for myomectomy, endometriosis, tubal ligation reversal, and Essure reversal. Originally a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Dr. Dourron moved to Atlanta at age seven where he graduated from Woodward Academy. He obtained a B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Georgia and earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. He completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency training at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan and a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.
Prior to joining Life IVF Center, Dr. Dourron practiced Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at HRC Fertility Doctor in Newport Beach, California. His (medical) interests include surgical infertility, myomas (fibroids), endometriosis, recurrent pregnancy loss and IVF.
Dr. Dourron is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a member of numerous medical societies, including Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI) and American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM). Dr. Dourron served as the Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, California and founding member of the center of excellence in minimally invasive gynecology surgery.
Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Dourron enjoys spending time with his four daughters. His interests and hobbies include travel, water skiing, snow skiing, skateboarding and surfing. His mother Maria Dourron, M.D. is a retired OB/GYN in Atlanta. He also has two brothers that are OB/GYNs and one brother that is a vascular surgeon in Atlanta.
Dr. Vu graduated from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 1988. He completed a residency program in obstetrics/gynecology at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in 1992 and a fellowship program in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1995.
While serving in the U.S. Army Medical Department, Dr. Vu was a clinical assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.
In 1999, Dr. Vu founded the Hawaii Center for Reproductive Medicine and Surgery, LLC and became its full-time medical director. He expanded the center's modern IVF laboratory program by implementing extended culture media (blastocyst), preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), and laboratory and clinical research projects.
From 1999 to 2005, Dr. Vu served as a reproductive endocrinologist and consultant for Kaiser Permanente Hawaii. During that time, he was also a reproductive endocrinologist and associate professor at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine.
In 2005, Dr. Vu was recruited to start up the 1st IVF program for Kaiser Permanente in the North Valley/Sacramento area. He served as Medical Director, Program Director and Lab Director for the IVF program. He served as Chief of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility during most of those years. Dr. Vu also served in various leadership positions at Kaiser Permanente of Northern California.
Dr. Vu is one of the few REI Physicians in the country who is also certified as High Complexity Lab Director in both Embryology and Andrology. He has been serving as an inspector for the College of American Pathologist.
