After having been married for several years, Catherine and her husband finally decided to settle down and try to have a family. She was shocked to discover that she had unexplained infertility. For six years, they tried to conceive through different types of fertility treatment, without success. Wanting to give up hope, they met Dr. Yelian, the medical director of Life IVF Center. They received IVF treatment at LIC, and within 6 months, she was pregnant! Their dream of having a family was finally fulfilled. She became a happy mother to a healthy baby boy.
“My husband I got married a couple of years after we graduated from the university. At that time we were thinking that we have all the time in the world for us to pursue studies and then eventually have a family, but my body was telling me otherwise,” Catherine said.
Upon being diagnosed with unexplained infertility back in 2007, Catherine and her husband explored numerous fertility treatment options from IUI to natural ways such as Ayurvedic doctors and acupunctures. “You name it, we’ve tried it,” she said.
They further pursued 3 cycles of conventional IVF treatment, and all failed.
"When I went to Dr.Yelian's office, it was very assuring to know that there is what we hoped."
Although Catherine accomplished quite a bit on the career front, the journey to motherhood was not so smooth for her, until she met Dr. Yelian.
“When I went to Dr. Yelian’s office, it was very assuring to know that there is what we hoped,” Catherine said. Due to her previous failed IVF experience, to give her a peace of mind, LIC offered her a risk share program. If she didn’t result in pregnancy, she will have 100% refund.
Catherine soon began her fertility treatment with LIC, and accepted the plan which allowed her to proceed with Natural Cycle and Minimal Stimulation treatments for up to 5 cycles.
During her cycles, she only took 25-50mg Clomid daily to mildly stimulate ovulation, occasionally adding 150iu FSH as needed. She also took advantage of outside monitoring management program (OSM) as she lived in Northern California. She went to a local clinic for blood work and ultrasound, and only came to LIC for egg retrieval and embryo transfer.
After a few minimal stimulation cycles, she made two blastocysts, 4BB and 4BC.
In March, 2014, Catherine went through embryo transfer procedure and had those two frozen blastocysts transferred. Nine days later, she had a positive pregnancy test. She repeated the test 48 hours later and her BHCG level doubled. It confirmed a viable implantation.
To be on the safe side, she also had weekly ultrasounds. On the fifth week of her pregnancy, she heard the heartbeat of the fetus for the first time!
In May, 2016, almost two years since Catherine graduated from LIC, she was invited back as a guest speaker at LIC fertility seminar. This time, she had an adorable little companion, who just turned 17 month old.
From the words of a new mother, Catherine suggested, “You don’t have to give up your career to have a family, but at the same time, I wouldn’t recommend waiting longer. If necessary, freezing your eggs may be a good idea.”
“I’m very glad that I found Dr. Yelian and LIC at the time I did,” she said gratefully.
